The Polly Toll Goodman
Award
is awarded to honor a Kiwi
Chapter Member for her outstanding and exceptional service to The
Kiwi Club. Chapters would nominate a Kiwi and present it to the
Executive Board, who would determine which Kiwi is most deserving. |
Bettye Beeson Betts
was chosen as the first recipient the POLLY GOODMAN AWARD
at the 50th Anniversary Party of the Atlanta Kiwi
Chapter!
Her impressive resume earned her that honor: Bettye
contacted 5 Kiwis in Hawaii in 1963. Together, they formed the
Hawaii chapter in 1964. When her husband, Fred, was transferred to
the mainland, she joined the Long Beach and Anaheim clubs and was
very active. The Betts then moved to San Diego where Bettye became
very active on various committees and the local Kiwi Board. She
served as President.
The family moved to Atlanta in 1978. She subsequently
served two terms as President in the Atlanta Kiwi Club.
Bettye’s activities included serving on the National
Kiwi Board as Treasurer and First Vice-President
in the mid-80’s. She frequently has been a delegate to National
Conventions and was co-chair of the 1992 Atlanta Convention. She
helped plan the 40th Anniversary of the Atlanta Club and
hosted the event in her home! She assisted with planning of the 50th
Anniversary event just held in September 2008. Other activities
included fund raising, and participation in skits. She singles out
Lee St George (founder of the San Diego Chapter) as her
mentor. She is grateful for all the friendship and help that Lee
offered.
“I love challenges and will always love the Kiwi
spirit.” Bettye is grateful for all the Kiwi friends she has made
over the years. We all agree with that, Bettye.
